That's how we still get our Go Kart racing tires mounted. Some of the rims are long and low profile and the tires are shorter in length so we "pop" them on the rim that same way.

As a teenager I worked in a feed & seed store.
One duty was to repair or replace tires using a manual tire changer. After breaking down a huge troublesome tire I found a match stem inside it. Thought it was very odd how it may have gotten in there and showed my boss.
After I patched the tire and mounted it, he came over with the acetylene bottle and a match and did the same thing.
I never had the nerve to try it.

I have seen it done with ether but never wd-40. Nice to know.

I heard air escaping after the mini explosion set the tire on the rim. Do you do that with the valve stem out, then you have to put it back in quickly?

We used to always do it that way. We usually used starting fluid though.

I use WD40 also as a starting fluid

I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I can't find out how to inflate my trailer tire anywhere on that site. :cen:

you might want to check that link MJ, I didn't see any tires getting inflated on there. But I agree with Charlie.

BTW, i was taught to mount tires like that when I was 12

I think it's rather ironic that the person that deleted my post about the race car because it was too lewd for this site has, himself posted a link to a smut site.
(And before you guys start to climb all over me, I KNOW it was an accident and that MJ will take care of it as soon as he sees it. I'm just laughing at the coincidence of it). :you:

Ive done it before when off roading and had an aired down tire loose a bead. WD 40 works but starting fluid or ether are better.
