Willy, you asked for a follow up on the sonar transducer thru-hull installation I did recently w/Chumbucket's sage advise as a guide...

In short...CB was right on the money!!...WORKED GREAT!!...could not asked for a better signal at all speeds...and there's no transducer hangin off the transom (not that it was ever a problem) so it's a lot cleaner install offering no water resistance...if anybody wants to do it, go back and see CB's thread on how to and mine on how it went together for me...that's the good news...

The other side of the coin is I fuggedup the GPS antenna plug to the same combo sonar/nav unit:cen:...or at least I haven't gotten it to come up yet:head:...still got a couple of tricks to try, so we'll see...

 On the transducer install.
 On the GPS ant install.
Did you bend the pins?
I still haven't got my transducer installed yet. Too busy fishing today. :hi:
I'm going to try to get it in tomorrow The display and antenna are all mounted.
I went with a Lowrance this time.

Didn't bend it...hell no, not me...I BROKE ONE OFF!!...STILL IN THE HOLE W/NOTHING TO GRAB TO PULL IT OUT..that's the way I ROLL!!...:cen:...read on THT about a guy who cut off the connectors and spliced all the wires back together w/no probs...so I cut mine off and spliced 'em back and not sure getting power to all yet (lost my volt meter to a leak in the tool box...:cen:)...100 years from now, it won't make a chit!!...:sun:

The only thing that didn't hold up on the ducer install was the liquid tape seal I thought would work (not CB's idea)...maybe some kinda 3M jism will do it...

Congrats on the install, may try that myself someday. My buddy had it done by the boat dealer when he bought it and it does work well at speed.

Reel... What did you finally go with? Did you use the Mineral Oil or plain water? Grats on the install working

A trick I've found thru the years for broken off pins is ...... of all things......super glue!!! This stuff has some serious bonding power. It's crap for side to side (lateral) sheer, but awesome for vertical hold. Take a straight pin, put a tiny drop on the head and place it against the broken pin end... WAIT at lease a minute for it to dry... 5 minutes are better...pull the pin STRAIGHT out... DO NOT wiggle it side to side or the bond will be broken... but most times it works when nothing else will.

Went w/the mineral oil...it won't freeze in winter and I'm thinkin it transfers the sonar signal better...lost some oil thru the liquid tape seal, so gotta shore that back up...don't want to create a maintenance issue...
