Just a quick question for everyone. Does anyone have an opinion on what is the best gas powered trolling motor for a V20? Currently, I use a British Seagull Century (about 5 hp) and the super large 5 bladed prop will move a barge.. but it's noisy as hell. Anyone have a good experience with a different motor?:head:

I have 1975 9.9 hp Johnson long-shaft (20") that came with my V. The previous owner bought it for $400 on eBay. It works great but I rarely use it anymore. The reason is two-fold - 1) it would be in the way when I wasn't using it. 2) It isn't really made for saltwater so it likes to corrode.
I'm holding onto it though in case I ever get a john-boat or small skiff. Matter of fact I'm going to use it soon to test out the little skiff Flyfishin has been refurbing.
I would just about recommend using a trolling plate on the big motor instead of having an extra kicker motor....assuming you'd only have it for trolling and not necessarily for a safety back-up motor in the event there were issues with the big motor.

i had a 7.5 honda on a 19 mako i had back in the 80's that was great. hung on a kicker bracket, quiet, out of the way, used almost no fuel and had plenty of torque to push the boat.

I have a Tohatsu 4 stroke ultra quiet starts on the first pull, weight is 50 or 59 lbs, pushes the V quite nice regardless of the wind, hell one day I left the keys home for the 140 we were at lease 30 plus miles from home, guess what was the engine used for the day on the river?
Here is a picture of my setup ..
