Well I made it here on Tue nught. On wed we went around looking at stuff and also mmy friend Mark is looking at new to him boats, we went to Seaway Marina in Gulfport and looked at a nice 23 Seacraft with a 300 Yamaha, I have filled in Mark on all ther things he needed to know, I made a offer and now waiting?? we will see

From there we went to Kiln, Ms To Jordon River Steamers, We had a nice dinner with a few friends if Johns, We had Lobster that was very good, But man thr Gumbo SUCKED!! But it was a nice night non the less. The Crawfish Bisque was great!

Today we went all over the place in Johns 1962 Plymouth that he and I started restoring 20 years ago! It was in good shape when he moived from Mass back in the mid 90's, But he has done a ton more work to it over the years!!
Every were we went people were looking at us and asking questions. Man the women love that thing!

We went to a place right here in Long Beach called The Crawfish Hut, I and my wife decided to try a sample plate and it had, Fried okra, fried shrimp, fried oysters, fried cat fish, and fried alligator. Everything was pretty good, John and his wife had a pound plate of steamed crawfish, so I tried a few, not bad tasted ok a bit spicy which i like, but the meat was a bit soft .

So at 7:30 we will be fishing on the gulf. More pic's to come after the trip tomorrow!!

Here is John in thre plymouth

Well Friday morning we left on are fishing trip, We meet the Captain in Bayou Caddy and headed for the Rigolets for a day of Reds and Trout.
Was a very slow start, but we found the trout after a bit and got about a dozen of them. While fishing for them we manged to scare a small school of Reds.
We moved all over the place and John caught a 15 pound Red and what a nice fight he had on light tackle!

I forgot the camera and have no pic's for the day :fight: The captain did get a pic of John and the fish and we are waiting for him to email it to us.

The boat was a 23 Hydrosport with 250 hp 4 stroke, what a nice moving boat!!
The Captain was a nice enough guy, and knew how to run the boat and how to fish, but his gear was less then in good shape! I lost at least one chance to get some Reds cause the spinning gear was all stiff to the point we had to pull the bail over by hand. He also did not offer any info on how to catch the fish, I had to watch him and figure it out for myself, then tell John how to do it.
But it was a great day out there I got my first sun burn iof the season!

Now for Saturday, we headed for New Orleans, we meet up with Ferm and his wife, Nice people! to bad we did not have a log of time together as we got a later start then we expected and it took Ferm a little longer then he thought to get there. But it was nice talking and to put a face to a name!! Thanks Ferm!!

After that we were off to the streets, we had a blast!! Lots of interesting people for sure!
My wife got the wheelchair ride of her life after I had 3 shots of JD, 2 Banana Dac, 1 Hand Grenade, and more beers I can remember!!
I do have some pictures here but will wait till I get home to post.
Just as we started walking the streets the sky's opened up and it was raining most of the time, we were wet but fun was had by all!

How does someone that's barely left the state of Massachusetts his whole life finally get to go on two vacations within a couple months and all he has to show for it are about a half dozen pics between the two vacations. The guy goes on a fishing charter and can't even take one single pic.
If Hammer were around more, he would not stand for this at all. Not one bit. Neither should the rest of us dammit!!!!!
This is grounds for justifiable mutiny. :bat:

I'm glad everyone has been enjoying the week. The Petal and I are always happy to host and this week it has been a full house. Even our friend Anna crashed here over the weekend because she had to work in town, so Friday and Saturday night we had 5 people in the house all night!

It really sucks that Joe forgot his camera on Friday because I didn't take one either. I have heard, and seen for myself, one too many horror stories to take my new camera out on the water and Joe said he was bringing his, so I figured we were covered. But then when we got out on the boat we discovered that he had forgotten his camera in the trunk of the car. It made it all the way to the dock only to be forgotten. Sad, because there was some great scenery out there on what turned out to be a real beautiful day on the water.

The trip out there did have its drawbacks despite the beauty. For instance, I cannot even tell you how bad the gnats were out there in the Rigolets. I have never seen the air so thick with them here on land, even in the worst of times. It was so bad you didn't even want to breathe. I had on two t-shirts a hooded sweatshirt and a jacket and they were still getting to me and were still biting on and off as late as noontime.

But in spite of that, it was still one hell of an adventure into a place that I have never gone before, so I was OK with dealing with the bugs. The fact that I actually managed to land the biggest fish of the day was pure lagniappe to me. I would have been just as happy to just ride around out there all day checking out the sights. Several times we spotted dolphins, including, sadly, one dead one. I also got a close up look at several of the many species of birds that populate the land just off shore from my own home. An amazing trip to an amazing place that is so close, yet so far, from my own back yard.

Later that evening I decided to have a bonfire in the back yard. I got a pretty good one going with some brush that I have been cutting out of the back of my property and ran it out to about 1 a.m. Getting rid of a pile of brush and having a good time is my idea of a win-win. I always love my fires.

Saturday night was party night for us when we went to New Orleans to visit the French Quarter. We were joined by Anna who was tired from working all day but seemed to enjoy herself anyway. First up was a meeting with one of the people on this board, a guy by the name of Ferm and his wife. It took me about 5 minutes of conversation to determine that Ferm loved to work on power heads. Ferm could not stay long, so we hung out at the Starbucks in Canal Place while he and Joe got acquainted. When the meeting was over, the five of us made our way to Maspero's for dinner, then to Bourbon Street for the partying.

All of us drank and got a buzz going, but none so much as Joe, who became quite ****faced and was experiencing moderate to severe navigational difficulties. To make matters worse, the weather had changed dramatically from what it had been the day before and the rain was now coming down in buckets. We found a club to take shelter in and that is when the booze started flowing in earnest.

In the midst of it all, Joe discovered that the back of Maggie's cell phone, which he had been using, had been lost. I managed to retrace our steps and successfully locate the missing piece in one of the places we had gone before the club.

The funniest part was near the end when the rain was bucketing down and Joe was pushing Maggie through the soaking wet streets. She was lucky that she had an umbrella. The rest of us were not so fortunate and were soaked to the gills during what must have been at least a half-mile slog back to the car. Some of the funniest video of the day was shot during this time. A true classic in drunken, drenched behavior.

Today, Sunday, was much more low key. First we had to ride over to Hwy. 49 to rescue Anna when her car would not start. Then we went to Yuki's for dinner before we treated Joe and Maggie to a tour of the EM.

This has been a great week for all of us. Sadly, The Petal must go back to work today and Joe and Maggie depart in a little more than 24 hours from now, but we had some good times and it has been fun having them along with us, giving them a taste of how we roll down here in the dirty south.

"lagniappe"

Sure had to look that one up -> lagniappe; an unexpected or indirect benefit.

Don't think I'll ever use it, don't even know how to pronounce it.

It is pronounced lan-yap, with the a's being short. It is quite commonly used in this area. It means a little something extra. A bonus.

redfish!

This is the fish I caught on our outing to the Rigolets on Friday, which is mentioned in a previous post. The delay in getting this image was due to a misunderstanding with the e-mail address.

The charter captain called me Wednesday to follow up and we were able to settle the confusion and he sent the picture straight away. Sadly, this is the only picture taken of our voyage.

Joe and The Petal prepared the meat from this fish four different ways. Joe prepared his battered on the grill and steamed with veggies on the grill. The Petal pan fried one of her pieces and baked the rest of it, blackened in the oven. I thought I would have a favorite, but they were all good. It was some of the most delicious fish I have ever tasted, prepared by two of the best cooks I know.

Kudos to the chefs and thanks to Foywonder and our friend Janet, who came by to help us eat it all!

Looks like I missed out on a good time too. But there was noway of me getting out of work. I was even working on my birthday, is how bad it was these last couple of weeks. Hope we can get together next time. Being a new V20 owner, I would have loved a professional opinion on my ride.

Ya'll didn't say anything about how hard it was to get that 'ol red in the boat. They are about as much fun to catch as they are to eat. Would have loved to see that look on ya'lls face when you realized that that wasn't just a snag on the end of your line!

Anyway glad ya'll had a great time here. Hope to catch you next time.
