Hi guys,
I have found a 1974 v20 with an outboard on it that I am thinking about adding to my collection. I have an 82 with the 470 i/o in it but I like the idea of the extra room an outboard offers. Anyway the motor is junk but I have a Johnson 115 VRO that runs great and I was wondering if that would push the boat ok. Thanks...

V4, 140 horse would do around 35mph, get good gas hours and carry a fair load. The 115 might do near 30mph, light loaded and well balanced. The step hull of these boats can fool you.
V6, 150 horse will get (+,-) 2.5mpg but carry any load and do up to 45mph.
Besides the more room of the outboard, you also have the coolers/storage in the floor, taking up less space.
Go for it!!

The 150 is a nice motor for that year. Is the boat a CC?

No Blu it has a cabin. The boat is in New Jersey right now and with the weather they have had I can't get it home right now. I am going to try to get it this friday if they have it dug out.

There has been several 115 installations around here and it'll depend on what you want...if you have some long runs to make, plan on around 25 mph cruise, whereas a 150'll get you around 30...the guys w/200s are probably cruisin around 35...so it's a personal preference kinda thing, but I think of 115 as minimal power for these hulls...
