I mentioned in my trip report that it looks like we will be repeating the trip to Baja in 2008. Some of you have asked about this and the costs. I PM'd brother Willy about this recently. I'll cut and paste the info from that message cuz I'm too lazy to retype it. You are all invited to come along. It'd be great to have a V20 turnout. We hope to have 10 folks from the New York crew and 10 from my side though that is flexible. I currently have 5 of my 10 spots still available. I know it's a chunk of change but if ya start saving now the pinch won't be as hard. Anyway, here's the info I shared with Willy.
Hope to hear from you,

The trip next year will be in either the 3rd or 4th week of June. We will be fishing the same way with 2 passengers per panga rather than 3. I have told the charter master that I will take 10 of the 20 available spots.
I can't even begin to tell you how great this trip was. Much of it of course was due to great weather and fantastic fishing/diving. A lot of the trip's success was due to our charter master Jack Cohen of New York. Jack bent over backwards to ensure that everyone had a great time. Having done the trip before he knows the little extras that will put the trip over the top. (eg: taking ~ 400# of frozen bait with us in case live bait was hard to catch, having 300# of dry ice shipped with the bus to San Felipe to keep the fish frozen for the trip home, hitting golf balls on the Sea of Cortez, organizing group tackle purchases to keep costs down...)
He is just now negotiating the prices for next year's trip. They have quoted us a base price for the charter of $36,000. Divided between 20 people thats $1800 per person. Added to that will be ~$200 for round trip bus fare from San Diego to San Felipe and the hotel for the night in SF.
Additional charges would be for the hotel in San Diego if you need it (the night before and after the trip) ~ $116 per night (best to split this with your travel partner), your bar tab, Tips (figure $100 for the crew and $~$250 for your guide for the week) and ~$300 for other costs such as dry ice/tackle/bait.
This is all still a little tentative but my feeling is that it will happen. I am giving first priority to the folks who went with me this year but I know some of them are unlikely to go next year due to health problems.
Assuming this all comes together we will collect a deposit in August (~$300).
My friend Butch pulling a black seabass in on the first day of fishing. It was released unharmed a moment later and was probably the largest fish of the trip.
