The itch needed to be scratch so I went out last night in Pee soup fog. :-/ Were by boat is there is a path between the reef about the size of a drive way and with all the fog and the high tide; it was pretty close to a short trip ::). Followed my bread crumbs out to the spot and once I was there it took what felt like 20 mins. And 3 or 4 anchor drops to be some what were I wanted to be. With out my land markers I line up with and my bearings completely out of wack with the two feet of visibility it was very hard/stressful to say the least. We were out for about 45 min with nothing, and the SSW started to pick up as well as the white caps on top of the 2/3ft rollers, no fun. Then my buddy caught a blue, fish in the boat (soon to be fish in the lobster trap) about another 20/30 min of rocking and rolling followed by the occasional bilge turning on and the 1st striper was landed, finally!
Best of all I had a camera on the boat so I could get some fish/boat pic combos!
Not the trophys i was looking for, but still decent/fun fish
here are two of my 3

I'm in Newport RI, and currently I'm getting between 2 and $2.50 a lbs from the restraunts. *Basiccly enugh to pay for a trip with a lilt left over.
I'm supposed to go out again tomorrow, but my wife is leaving for Nantucket (thats were my family is) so she want to spend quality time on her only day off before the yleave ::) But Sat - next thursday I am free ;D ;D and planning on fishing every day, I want my 50!!!

Way to go Sean! The way you keep at it your 50#er is right around the corner. If I lived as close as you do to the ocean I'd be out there everyday. The 2+ hour drive gets old for me after a while. Maybe one day if we sell our approved building lot (currently on the MLS listings) then sell off the house, a move to the coast would be a great thing for me. Now all I have to do is convince the darling wife. ::)

Thanks Shawsee, and sounds like you have a good game plan ;D
Realisticly the 50 is no closer today, then it was 20 years ago, a once in a life time fish. To tell you the trurth the 20-25lb fish are my favorite, fight like the dikens and have a better mortalty rate when released. Once the are over 30lbs they have a few good runs then tire them selves out, which make recovering them tuff. But dont get me wrong, there is no better feeling then when you 1st get sight of a large comming up from below ;D
