i have a wellcraft v-20 that has a rope deck pipe on the bow. the anchor line/rop comes throught the fitting and attached to a bow deck mounted anchor. The deck pipe has a cap that fits over the rope to prevent water from entering the cabin area. NO MATTER What i do water always comes through the deck pipe into the cabin. th rope seem to fit perfectly, not allowing much room for water to get in. the boat is at a mooring so the elements are always coming at the boat. My mooring cover does not extend past the windshield..Any ideas how to make this work better, is there another tyopr of thru hull fitting for an achor line? should i make a caover for the deck pipe? im racking my brain and i cant figure it out. I dont want to get rid of the deck pipe because is very handy when flounder fishing and i drop anchor, since the anchor line has to come throught the bow fitting as there is no hatck..??? any thoughts
thank you

matt, this is what i did to redirect the water that comes in the pipe to the bilge. i know it's not the answer, but at least the cabin does not get all wet. this is a piece of 4" drain tile between the cabin roof and the hole in the shelf that my anchor line goes through. hope it helps

Maybe a piece of foam pipe insulation. Run the rode thru the middle? Would be a cheap fix if it would work.

its a boat, brother. you cant keep water out of a boat.

Being at a mooring, like I am, you are never going to keep all of the water out of the boat. One question...in which direction does the pipe have the opening facing? If it is facing forward, there is the problem. It should be facing the stern. Being at a mooring, you are always facing the wind (and rain) so having it face rearward will help...BUT, it will not stop it altogether.

As you can see, my hawse/deck pipe opening faces rearward. No matter what I do, I get water in my cuddy cabin. Anything I want to keep relatively dry I put up on the shelves.

Hi Rwilson,

The cable is used to keep the hawse pipe cap from going overboard. I lost the original cap when the ball chain broke and the cap went in the drink. I made the new cap retainer from stainless steel cable, ss thimbles, ss ring and copper swages. I hope this arrangement is much stronger than the original ball chain! I was lucky in that the original hawse pipe was a standard one and I was able to get a new cap from Starboard Supply for about $30. I got the ss cable etc. from Bosun's Supplies.
