It really sucks, but I lost my dad's dog today. My dad passed away in 03 and I promised him before he passed that I would take care of his dog. Tuesday he was fine and playing with our other dog like nothing was wrong, woke up Wednesday morning and he had thrown up in the house. Took him to the vet later that day as he got to where he was vomitting non stop and they said his intestines were blocked up. They gave him a couple of shots to try and see if they could loosen it up, but today he started bleeding internally. Took him in and had them go in to check his intestines and they found a tumor the size of a softball on his small intetstine and his entire GI was covered in cancer. They said they couldn't believe he made it this long without showing it as he didn't show any signs of pain or anything until Wednesday. Theres never a good time for it to happen, but I couldn't let him suffer any longer. It just really sucks that this was my dad's hog dog that had been cut and gashed too many times to count and had his intestines cut up and laid out, and now he's gone from cancer. I lost my dog that I had had as a kid 3 years ago to a tumor as well, so that didn't help things either.

He will be missed as anybody who knew him knew he was 100% attention hound and never showed aggression to anybody, all he ever wanted was attention.

Thank you all for the kind words. It was one of those deals where I knew it was gonna happen anytime now, but it still doesn't make it any easier. this dog had been through hell in the past as a hogdog, and had been cut open too many times to count because of it. But you couldn't have stopped him even if you had tried as he loved to hunt. It just made no sense that he never showed any signs and then 24 hours later he was gone. He lived a hard life, but I did my best to give him a good relaxing retirement. I guess my dad decided he was ready for his buddy to come stay with him.

I have to agree with reel. You gave him a good life, and I hope it comforts you to know that they're both in a good place, together again.

Thinking of you, Ferm. You did right by both your Dad and his dog. That's the stuff that counts. Take comfort in it.

'Love dogs, hate it that they don't live that long. It's always tough to tell the vet to put a dog to sleep, I had to do it just few years back.
