1989 V-20 with evinrude 225

I'm looking at this boat for sale, the passenger seat is the one with a forward and rear facing seat and owner states it is loose at the bottom.
Is this motor too much and is this seat problem common? Any other comments on the 1989 would be appreciated. I want to buy this boat, but it's my first power boat and am hesitant.

It's a boat, always stuff to fix.
235 is the max suggested horsemotor, will be fine.
Price is always a consideration.

V20 for a first boat,,
man that's like starting on your learners permit with a station wagon.

I wouldn't worry about the loose seat, no problem to fix. The Evinrude 225 is a good engine if it's been properly maintained. Like Tsubaki said, price is the major concern, followed by transom and fuel tank in my opinion.

The 225 oughtta be good match...if you are not outboard proficient, have a good outboard tech check it out for you...lower-unit oil, compression, etc...

Seat depends on WHY it's loose..could be just a couple of screws loose or a rotted floor...suggest remove seat and check it out...if rotted floor, get owner to come down on price to cover repair...walk around all over floor to look for soft spots, then w/motor tilted up, apply your weight to the foot of the motor and LISTEN...if no noise, transom good...if snap-crackle-pop, then transom will need repair...

That combo will work great--I had a 225 yamaha SWSII on mine untill I repowered 2 years ago with a Evinrude E-Tec 200HO and have been just impressed as heck!!
