Originally thought that i'd be going with a used Johnson, but after all the work i've been doing on the V I don't think want to have to fiddle with mechanical issues.

What are some of the better sources that you guys have been going through to repower and negotiate pricing? Is there some site that shows negotiating invoice prices much like there are for cars?

Not set on any vendor yet, only set on size of about 150.

Probably about 1 month away from repower.

We normally look at boats for sale with special interest in the motor.
Sometimes you sell the boat and trailer, cannibalize the rig or once in a while build another rig that you might like better than what you started out with.

i have seen some deals but they want to stay on price but they may give you a deal on install and some extras
The only way you can get a nice price is by and install yourself, but in most cases that voids the warrantee
I have looked at a new 250 HP 4-STROKE EFI SUZUKI 30" $11,500 but if i go with install its $16K
I will see, I am thinking next year have to see were my money is at in the spring?

Not cool that you would loose warranty on doing it yourself! I guess I need to go talk to one of these guys. I was est. based on website prices of around $10K for new 150.

Doesn't seem like brain surgery to install. Especially after all the items I'm going through to get the boat ready to begin with.

its illegal for the oem to void your warranty because you installed it yourself. Thats the dealer telling you that so they can make money on the install. If you want to install yourself, do it, then bring it to the dealer and get them to fill out a PDI form (pre delivery inspection) once you have a copy of that form signed by them you are good as gold. The pdi covers your butt. Also if you need to get warranty work done bring it to another dealer and tell them your wife bought it for you as a present. If its a BRP product let me know i might still have some pull.

I have heard of the inspection but I have heard most will n ot do it if you did not buy it from them?? Look up Ed's marine they have some nice deals.

It's stated in MANY of the warranties that it it must be checked by an authorized dealer before the first start-up. ED'S MARINE got into BIG trouble over this a few years back, and ALOT of engines he sold got voided warranties because of this. I know quite a few dealers will work with you on the install and charge you a $1K or so do just hang the engine and hook up the connections and do the first start for you and keep all the warranty terms intact. If you buy an engine though and do the whole install yourself and don't take it to a licensed dealer to verify the install before the first start they CAN and WILL void your warranty. As CT pointed out the PDI(pre deliver inspection) MUST be completed by a dealer.

When I bought my new mota in 03 I installed and they sent in the warranty with no inspection of my job........it may depend on the dealer.

the dealership i just left would only charge 400 for the whole installation of everything. we were one of the top 25 for 2008, so it wasn't a small dealership. those guys must be making a fortune.

Hankle Marine down here has ben advertising soem erally good deals on Yamaha motor lately, you might try with them, they are generally pretty good to work with

Fwiw, got a quote for a '09 Suzuki 140 4-stroke. Motor is around $9300, controls/prop/gauge/? around $1k, and rigging it another $1k. These figures are aproximations from what I remember but the total with tax is around $11700. I asked about rigging it myself and he didn't have a problem but he did mention the PDI but didn't mention about the "first start" thing. DiamonSuzuki.com does mention on their website that they don't ship to a non-authorized dealer but can make an arrangement with your local dealer. If I buy out of state I would save around $300 in taxes(local tax minus shipping cost). If I rig it myself it would save me another $1k or so. $1k for controls/prop/gauge/?...does that sound right? I wonder if those parts can be gotten for less.

I found that dealers will charge less if you de-rig your boat before taking it to them for a repower. For them time is money. Also if you rig it youself and they have to re-rig what you've done they will charge you per hour which could get expensive. In my area the dealers are around $85 an hour.
