What do you guys think of this? He says it has a hesitation problem on acceleration. Any thoughts on what is likely to cause that and how hard would it be to fix?

I wouldnt buy that motor. Check the guys feedback he has sold a few outboards in the past which leads me to believe he probably knows a thing or two about motors. If the problem was a simple carb job he would have done it already.

Well, I certainly would not buy it straight out without asking a question or two first.

I would ask about the compression. If compression is good, I would ask myself - do I want to have to work on a motor or would I rather spend a lil more money and not have to work on one?

Then go from there...after all the seller does have excellent feedback. To Mulv's point, there's a chance he's a 2 stroke guy and doesn't know squat about fixing mid-eighties 4 strokes. Then again in one of his feedbacks it says:
as described could have mention that the motor did not have compresson
Make sure you ask about compression.

Someone else asked about compression.....

Q: Sounds like it needs A carb job? I had the same motor. I wish you were A little closer. i live about 4 hours away in Long Island. Have you done a compression test? Chris thanks chris Apr-25-07

A: Chris, I would be willing to meet you 1/2 way between here and LI. I would need to charge $0.45 per mile round trip to cover the gas cost. I have not done a compression check. Thanks, ABH

I think I'll keep looking..........thanks for the input.
