Listen when I was a little boot, my father would let me stay up late for only certain times, when any John Wayne movie was on and when the greatest movie of all times came on. My Dad, who passed when I was 16 told me that everything you need to know in life is in that movie. I bring this up because I just spent the past couple of hours sitting and watching that movie again for the umpteenth time.
You know something, he was right, just thought I would share that

Shane, with Alan Ladd

I have seen it before, but do not remember that much about it, other than the kid at the end imploring Shane to come back. I need to rent it and watch it again.

Firstly, I haven't seen the movie for reasons unknown to me. Secondly, I don't know if you boys know this or not but.........

My name is Shane.

A guy here at work recites the end of the movie every time he sees me. "Shane, come back Shane. Mommas got work for you Shane." I've always heard it is a great movie.

Listen stating the greatest is obviously open to debate on many fronts I know. What the movie is is a very simply filmed, extremely well filmed, movie and it has some excellent life lessons in it, especially for men and as a young man was very influential on me.
Alan Ladd was a great actor, one of Jack Palance's first roles as evil incarnate and he was great.
If you guys have never seen it you should grab a rental, your favorite cocktail and sit down and enjoy. Especially you Shane. And if you have a son, make his day if young and let him stay up late and watch it with Pop. I promise he will remember it when he is older and you are gone.

I'll definitely watch it. I've actually been meaning to watch it for years. And, I'll make sure to let my 2 girls (9 & 11) stay up and watch it with me since I don't have a boy.

Roger that - I'm glad you reminded me that I need to watch it. A friend brought 40 year old virgin to work yesterday for me to watch.

Which one do you recommend the girls and I watch first? :oh::beer:

Looked up the film on Wikipedia. Willy, you have a good eye for cinematography. The film won an academy award for best color cinematography in 1954. It is listed as the 46th best movie ever by the American Film Institute, and is 3rd on the AFI's list of best western films.

Just get on with your road trip Mr. Pot calling the kettle black.
Poor Robin cooped up with himself for hours on end in a car.
Someone should send her a dozen roses and a bottle

Wind and the Lion is a great movie, but even better and about lions is one of my all time favorites, The Ghost and the Darkness. a true story and one of the best films ever put out.
Michael Douglas's and Val Kilmers best work.

Haven't seen that movie, but know the story from documentary...I'll take a look at it too...

Val Kilmer's best that I have seen is Doc Holiday in "Tombstone"...

"I'll be your Huckleberry." takes on new meaning...

Yup, definitely one of Val Kilmers best characters, It may be a close second to his Jim Morrison in the "Doors" movie but a great character for sure....I forget exactly how the line goes but the part where the guy says you are so drunk you are seeing two of me and he responds something to the effect of its ok, I have two guns, one for each of ya....

I will never forget the line when Clevon Little comes out of the sheriff's office the first morning after being appointed. He's all happy, and approaches an elderly lady and says Good morning Ma'am, ain't it a fine day, and the lady replies with "up yours Ni--er." Then of course there is the famous farting scene.

that has got to be one of the funniest movies ever. Too bad its gotten all politically correct now when it plays on even the pay channels. Theres something about Madeline Kahn(?) thats down right hot!! I bet she was something else in her earlier days.

"Shane"...I can see where a young, impressionable lad would take that as a life experience...humble-hero, stranger rides in and solves his family probs by killin' all the bad guys...for the time and given the cast, most likely a film of great notoriety..I can't say I was moved by it, but good stuff for it's time...:hi:
