Hello everyone,

I bought a V20 step lift cuddy out board 1984 today.

I was looking the catalog of the years 1983 and 1985 for the V20 step lift cuddy because there is not the year 1984 info in the web site.

I'm looking for the weight of the boat.
outboard engine, 150Hp Mariner
1 920 lbs is enrolled for the year 1983
and the same weight for the 1985...
I'm i undustanding correctly this information ? Am i correct with this interpretation ?

My question is - what the weight which I must refer to buy a trailer to be safe?

Thank's ... from one who is learning english whit you !
Sorry guy's

Hey, congratulations on the boat, and many happy days of boating to you. I cannot help you with the exact weight, but I would think you are right on with the 920 if that is the "dry" weight of the 1983 and 1985 without motor. You need to figure in the motor weight, of course, and I am sure others will be along to help with that shortly. Add to that gasoline (you may call it petrol) at about 8 lbs. per gallon, and then all the accessories. I would figure you would be perfectly safe with a trailer with a capacity of 5000 lbs., and you may be able to get by with less. I would recommend a dual axle trailer, either galvanized or aluminum.

Again, congratulations, welcome to the site, and good luck with your new cuddy.

Oops, I meant 1920 lbs. for the dry hull only weight.

Lets see,
1920 for boat
480 for 60 gals fuel
70 (?) for 15 horse Merc
405 for 150 horse Mariner

2875 pounds is what we are already up to and that ain't throwing the trailer weight into the equation!
Most of the V's can get away with a single axle trailer BUT it is best to do a dual axle (like nipper said) considering the tires being under almost maximum rating, especially for long trips.
I'm gonna upgrade one day.

And ct, I'm led to believe the Canadian French and the Louisiana French is two completely different animals, especially by parish seperation.

I am in the market for a trailer right now as well, I am going to get one that holds at least 4000 pounds(1818 kilos), I think that will easily cover a fully loaded V-20.

Congrats on the new boat, you got the BEST year, 1984!

And welcome to the site, don't worry about your english, it is better than some of the others on here that only speak english.

I actually found one today and put down a deposit so I can go back and get it Friday. Aluminum, dual axle, disc surge brakes, torsion axles.....last years model, but thats ok, I have last centuries boat.

I would get a trailer that holds around 4000 pounds. I weighed in this summer and got 4400 pounds, but that included some additional weight loaded in for a move. So I would say boat, motor, trailer, gear, fuel, etc and the total would be right at 4000 pounds.

4000 lbs

4700 lbs

this is a lot of difference if i compare the total weigh of one to another.
That's also mean a different trailer, no ?

What are the % of securtity ( lbs ) should we include to total weigh ?

I would go with a 5000 lb. capacity trailer. Better safe than sorry. Again, I would recommend dual axles, preferrably with disc brakes. Do not even think about a painted trailer if there is any possibility you will use the trailer to launch your boat into the ocean.

The trailer that came with mine was the original trailer with the boat. Single axle Load Rite. According to the specs on my registration, is rated for 3680 lbs. Tows my 87 V like a champ, but like others have stated, a larger capacity is the way to go because you just never know what will be on board when you are towing. Oh, and my 150 hp Johnson weighs in at 375 lbs (as per OMC website).
