.... as a reminder, be carefull, there are not too many anymore, we must remember we sail on THEIR habitat, water was their home before we made it our playground.
I know most people care, specially boaters, but we must pass the word, because every year boats still hurt or kill some of them, and once their gone, is forever.
Thanks.

Besides they taste like crap and smell like hell if you run over them and kill them.

Just kidding, we usually see them in the St. Johns at the bottom of Lake George when we go early summer Bream fishing around Hitchens Creek or Blue Creek. Some have the propeller scars, some have numbers tattooed and occasionally, we will see one without any identifying marks!
They will be 3' wide sometimes, don't know how long but look 12 to 14'.

And the 15th century sailors must of been horney as hell to even think of confusing them with mermaids!

Thanks for posting that reminder...the people who live in their habitat and don't give a crap about 'em need to move out and let people who do care about 'em move in...the problem would be solved...

A couple of them moved into Murrell's inlet SC last year. I didn't see them but thought it was a bit unusual.

I don't know much about them. Do they heard up in the open ocean? Can you see them on the surface? Or are they mainly a back-water creature?

The heard has been growing here for a long time!! Use to see them kin the fall and winter, but they live here all year long now and the number has grown to the thousands!
They eat all the inshore fish and bait, all the surf fishing on the outer cape has become nothing and if you do get a fish the seal will steal it right off your rod!
Even the boat fishing has become lame, I have not been to the outer cape in at least 5 years as its not worth it anymore.

down here in the south, nutria eat marsh and make trails in the marsh like there is no tomorow. they are a nuisance and not indegenious. if you get a liscense which isnt hard to obtain the tails are $5 a pop. when they are out they are easy targets.

Those bastards sure are ugly. They look like big rats with wooden beaver teeth. At least seals are cute.

Haha! I remember when Sheriff Harry Lee (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Lee_%28sheriff%29) had all the Jefferson Parish deputies out shooting nutria in an attempt to cut down on the population a little.

It was one of the wackier of his often controversial stunts.
