First off Great Forum!!! I was going to sell my V20 but just love it too much. I am looking for a new engine possibly a used 150HP. Anyone have any suggestions for the Long Island area? Thanks.

I live in West Islip. I have a 200HP Yamaha on my boat now and am looking for a small 150HP engine. Hopefully it will be a little better on gas and more reliable. My yamaha is getting old but still a decent engine. Reverse just went in it last season.
Any ideas of good 150's and prices?
Thanks.

Welcome PC,
I'd say plan on spending anywhere from $2500 to $3000 for anything from mid 90's and newer...
Which brand? Just like asking which brand truck is best, everybody has their own opinion.
If I were to guess, the most popular brands on this forum are Chevy and Johnson/Evinrude.

Yeah I would love a 4 stroke but dont know if I could afford it right now. I like the suzuki 150 but maybe I could get some $$$ for my yamaha on my boat right now on a trade.
Do dealers usually give you good if any money for your old engine?

PC,
From what I've heard they're no different that car dealers if that tells you anything.
You're better off trying to sell it via Craigslist or Ebay. I would think You should get a good price for it. Yamahas are a well respected brand.

Yeah unfortunately it is a 1989 200 Yamaha and has a bad shift shaft. That means the power head has to be lifted just to have that 100 dollar part put in.
Also it sucks bad on gas. Maybe a few gallons every couple of miles, if that.

Ouch!
Three options: fix it and use it; fix it and sell it; part it out...

My yamaha and BS both had the shift rod go, it sucks to replace!!
BS fixed his own with his dad, I took mine to a good Yamaha guy that fixed it in 1/2 a day.
Its a tuff call, what are the compression #'s Does the oil injection still work?? (Thats what killed mine last year) You could fix, but I am sure it will be like $500+ and thats not money your going to get back.
So fix it and use or part out, more hassle parting out, but you will make out much better $$$ wise!
