Wellcraft 18 fish..anyone out there?

HI ,
i have 18 fish wellcraft center console 91 model. The tag on the inside that says max capacities is faded out. I have an merc 115 outboard right now and im looking to upgrade. Anyone know whats max motor size on this boat. any way i can get replacement tag for boat? any help is appreciated.

I've looked at alot of the 18's and I think if I had to repower one, I'd consider a 130-140 hp 2 stroke. Most 150's would be a V6 and much heavier than a 4 cylinder in the 130-140 range. When propped correctly, I think performance wouldn't suffer that much and fuel economy would be much better. You've got a great boat. Good luck. Just my $.02.

130 Yamaha would probably be the best repower. Don't let teh V4's fool you, the OMC loopers are heavier than you think, ferm has the most experiance with them here. personally, I'd have a 2.0 Merc 150, at least thats what the stickers would say

Yep, them 90 degree V-4 loopers are HEAVY! My 140 weighs in at about the same weight as a 2.0L 150 MERC(150 MERC is about 380-390 pounds and my 140 weighs in at 375 roughly). A late model 115 V-4 looper from OMC would be a good choice though. They are a strong engine and fairly lightweight.

That depends on the year 115 MERC you have? Some of the 115's were glorified FORCE engines with a MERCURY cover on them. The 95+ 115's that are the 60 degree loopers are pretty strong engines. There also pretty quiet for a 2 stroker, and built off of the famous 150/175 platform that made OMC a benchmark in the industry.

i have the 91 merc 115 . the one with the 2 =2 carbs. 2 work when at idle and the other 2 kick in when you gas it..

you would like the late model 115 Johnrude better than that merc, but i doubt you wuold pick up any major performance gains, it would be smoother and quiter engine though

I've never seen an 18 with a V4 looper but believe that would be fine. The 18 Fish was really popular locally in the late 80's and most I've seen were powered with the V6 Merc 150, it was a near 50 mph boat. Even most OMC fans respect the 150 Merc, one of those underrated motors that ran for years and years.

I have a 18ft Well Craft center console and a Evinrude 235 on the back. This boat will fly. Has a bimini top and rod and reel holders on the side. This is a very nice boat. The only reason im selling it is because i have another baby on the way and my toys have to go. It does need a Tilt and Trim cylinoid which is about $30, and wiring for the raido and any other electronic you want to put into the boat. INCLUDES: 4 standard orange lifejackets, 3 nice lifejackets, fishing poles, all saftey musts: flare gun, fire extinguisher, etc. Call for any questions. We ran an 18' with an 89' 115 Merc for a long time. I thought it was a great match as you can only go so fast in real world conditions. Easy on fuel too. If I was ever going to downsize I'd love to have her back.

We got mid 30's as I can recall. We actually fished that boat offshore on nice days. I remember the day I installed a loran on it and went to the Jackspot off OC MD and caught 3 small bluefin's and about 30 chopper blues with one buddy. We had many a goo feeshin trip on that boat.

I have a 89 18 fisherman with a 89 130hp yammie. She'll do 40mph on flat water. I bought this rig last year, anyone have any opinions on these boats? good or bad

Turns out a guy I know has an 18 with a 200 merc turning a 14 1/2 X 23" prop. He says he thinks it probably does high fifties maybe sixty, but his T-top acts like a kite and it starts to chine walk like crazy. :sun:

I have an 18 with a Johnson 115 spl. It looks like my performance is inline with everyone else, tops out around 37-38. However, I wouldn't mind repropping it to have give up a mph or 2 uptop for some more low end grunt. Overall I'm very happy with its performance.
