I'm going to buy a Hobie in the spring and plan to peddle both before I make my decision. As for now I'm weighing the pros and cons for each. You guys have any first hand knowledge of either model?

I have buddies with both. I have peddled both and my preference for FISHING in the Outback...its huge....very roomy, easy to stand and walk around in and very well suited for fishing. The Revo is faster, but also narrower....its better suited for longer trips and/or paddling. If you feel you will ever want to paddle then go with the Revo...the outback dont paddle well due to its bulk and fishability.

Either way they are nice boath......let us know what you do and go test both of em before purchase. :sun:

Do you think there is a big difference in speed between the two?

The Outback I peddled has the medium turbo fins so no.....get them and its a sweet combination between the two....cant beat it. The Outback with them (or even stock) is faster than a trolling motor will push any YAK....it will put off a serious wake......

I cant really afford one but if I ever suck it up and get a Hobie it will be because of the versatility while fishing....you can never lay your rod down and fish the whole time....

The new propellar drive Native is off the chain as well...check it out...its more $$ but I drove one of them this past saturday and it will SMOKE the Hobie.....you can reverse to by peddling backwards!

I found a local store selling a 2007 leftover Outback for $1225. I may try and talk the wife into it since an 09' probably will coast me $1600.

I just got a quote on an 09' out the door for $1500. Now I'm really having trouble with my decision. The 07' after tax will come to $1300.

Id go 07.....I got my redfish way cheaper as a "new" last year's model.

I don't mind leftovers but they made some changes from 07' to 09'. Most notably they changed some components on the drive. I have read a ton of posts on different forums about the changes and still don't know if they are signficant enough to spend the extra $200 on.

Oh I gotcha. What are the differences? The boat itself or just the drive?

The 07' through 09' is the same hull, in 09' they added a quick release click in system for the mirage drive. No more cam locks. The drive was beefed up with newer style drums and sprockets. I have talked to two dealers who say that the improvements are nice but shouldnt be a deal maker or breaker. I'm just trying to weigh the pros and cons.

Update... I went tonight to look at the leftover 07', it was not as good as I would have hoped. I saw it as soon as I pulled up to the store, it was hanging on front of the shop exposed to the elements. I thought ok as long as its in good shape. It wasnt, it had multiple gouges and scuffs. The rudder did not operate smoothly and the shop wasnt willing to discount it any further. I decided that I would rather pay the extra $200 to a local shop for the 09' where I know I will receive excellent product support. I'm going to hold off buying it till the Spring. http://www.newenglandkayakfishing.com/themes/Talisman/forums/images/spacer2.gifhttp://www.newenglandkayakfishing.com/themes/Talisman/forums/images/spacer.gif

I ordered an 09' Outback and I'm picking it up on Dec. 13. I hope I don't regret not getting the Revo but for the type of fishing I do I think the Outback is the way to go. I'll post pics when I get it.

Change of plans yet again. I saw on the Bassbarn a guy who was selling an 09' Outback brand new for $1400, I offered him $1200 and picked it up this morning (pics are coming). He won it in a fishing contest, it was still in the bubble wrap. Turns out its a Hank Parker fish edition with gear bucket and tackle trays, I'm stoked.:sun: I'm going away this weekend but will post pics next week.

Altered a paint bucket from Lowes for my center hatch.

Cut out the dividers for the Hobie hatch lure bucket and put in a Cabelas 12 volt battery for the fish finder. I like the battery here because its high and dry and easily accesible for charging.

nice Mulv, I've got the same fishfinder on my tin boat, nice little unit, how do you like it?

Stink, they are hard to come by used. It seems the ones that are for sale used are selling for close to new prices. I'll keep my eye out for ya on some of the kayak sites I visited. I saw an 06' in Amelia Island, FL for $1100 on another site, but I think that may be a little far for you.

Phes, I havent used the fish finder yet, but for $80 I figured I couldnt go wrong. I can't wait to try it out, its the first fishfinder I have had on a kayak.

Thanks...keep your eye out for me.

I got a budy that can get it here from say panama city-west but thats a bit much. He travels around and offered free "shipping" if I run across something from like PC FL- Hammond LA.
